Habitat for Humanity Build

September 27th 2013, DeGroote MBAs for Impact partnered with the Halton Habitat for Humanity to help with renovations to their ReStore location on Appleby Line in Burlington. Twenty DeGroote MBAs and a handfull of dedicated volunteers and staff from Habitat contributed a full day of hard work, lots of demolision and construction, and a great deal of sweat into a fantastic project.

To top it off, students were able to raise over $1100.00 for Halton Habitat for Humanity!

Thank you to all those involved, it was a great experience helping our community.

DMI Case Challenge

The Case Challenge invited groups of students to work together in teams, using their problem solving ability and business knowledge, to come up with feasible solutions to challenges faced in developing communities around the world.

The solutions required concepts of collaboration, private-public-partnership, innovation, CSR and sustainable business, and market disruption, amongst other ideas. This challenge was an opportunity for students to engage themselves in the development sector, and understand the ideas of new philanthropy.

Congratulations to all teams who participated and thank-you to the judges and senior mentors.

I'Each semester, DMI host one volunteering event to support a local or international non-profit organization and provide students with opportunities to give back to their local and global communities. We also organize at least one initiative dedicated to educating students about sustainability and corporate social responsbility, increasing awareness of social, economic, and environmental challenges, and creating opportuniries for students to use their business skills to make a positive difference.

See below for some of the events we have organized recently.

We also partner with local organizations to make these initiatives come to life. Two of our partners are:

1. Strive Consulting (www.striveconsulting.ca)

2. Halton Poverty Roundtable (www.haltonpovertyroundtable.com

Check out these organizations and what they do for the Hamilton, Burlington and surround community.

If you have a great project, idea, or opportunity for collaboration, we would love to hear it! E-mail us at degroote.dmi@gmail.com or visit our connect us page

Helping Out Before the Holidays

Thank you to all who participated in the Helping Out Before the Holidays Volunteer Event, hosted by DMI and MASO. With the support of students and staff, we were able to make a great impact on our local and global communities.

We packed 25 shoeboxes to donate to Operation Christmas Child to be delivered to children across the world who wouldn't otherwise receive gifts around the holidays.

We assembled 24 pizzas and delivered them to the hot meal program at Good Shepherd in Hamilton.

We prepared gifts at Ronald McDonald House for their annual volunteer recognition event.

Thank you again to everyone at DeGroote who helped make this event possible. We look forward to running the event again in the future!
